Texas Tech stays on top in Week 1 softball Power 10 rankings

College softball Power 10 rankings after an eventful Week 1

Here is my Week 1 Power 10 ranking following a jam-packed opening weekend.

1. Texas Tech (Prev.1)

Texas Tech stays on top with five run-rule wins over the weekend and a ranked win over then-No. 11 Texas A&M.

2. Texas (Prev.2)

I kept Texas at No. 2 despite splitting two games with a then-top 10 team in Nebraska. They won the first game versus the Huskers 15-10 before dropping the second by three runs.

3. Tennessee (Prev. 5)

I have Tennessee moving up two spots as they remain undefeated. My questions about the Vols had to do with their lineup, and the offense came out firing. Sophia Knight had a strong start at the plate, and the Vols took down then-No. 5 Oregon as well for a top-10 win.

4. Oklahoma (Prev.3)

Oklahoma at No. 4. The Sooners won the series over then-No. 18 Arizona but dropped one game of the series, 11-6, after giving up an early lead. The offense is certainly there, though. It is not a question whether this team will hit. They put up 21 runs, homering seven times in the following game. One of the best offensive performances in OU history.

5. Florida State (Prev.6) , 6. Florida (Prev.8)

FSU and Florida at No. 5 and No. 6, both remained undefeated after Week 1, but neither played any ranked opponents.

7. UCLA (Prev.9)

UCLA is also undefeated, and not just undefeated, but the Bruins notched five run-rule wins over the weekend. A dominating performance. I think this team has a lot of room to surge in the rankings this season.

8. Arkansas (Prev.7)

I debated where to move Arkansas and Nebraska after losses on opening weekend. Arkansas was fairly dominant all weekend outside of one uncharacteristic game against Virginia. The offense put up some big numbers in every other game, so I am only dropping them a spot.

9. Nebraska (Prev.10)

And Nebraska notched two ranked losses, one to then-No. 1 Texas, but also a win over then-No. 1 Texas which is impressive. The Huskers scheduled tough in non-conference, not going to punish them too much for it when there are undefeated teams in comparison who didn’t play as tough of competition. The Huskers move up to nine.

10. Alabama (Prev. NR)

Alabama is welcomed to the top 10 early in the season after starting out undefeated and hitting 18 homers in opening weekend.
