William & Mary senior drains half-court winner at buzzer

On Saturday night, before a fateful few seconds, William & Mary’s Oliver Tot played 19 minutes of basketball and attempted zero shots.

With two seconds left to play, William & Mary trailed Old Dominion 77-76 and had an inbounds pass on its own end of the court. Since the whole “no shooting” thing wasn’t working for his team, Tot decided to take one, and he drained it.

Tot’s half-court heave at the buzzer, just his fifth shot attempt through six games this season, found twine and sent the Tribe to a 79-77 win over Old Dominion in dramatic fashion.

It was just the 26th 3-point attempt of Tot’s career; before Saturday night, he had made eight in 86 games since the fall of 2014.

Here’s another angle of the insanity:

What a shot.

With the win, William & Mary moves to 3-2 this season, while Old Dominion falls to 4-2.

William & Mary is one of 43 schools never to have made the NCAA tournament. If Tot’s magical shot is any indicator, there might at least be hope.
