⏮️ A rivalry renewed
The clash between No. 1 Nebraska and No. 16 Penn State on Friday, Oct. 3 will mark the 42nd meeting between the two blue bloods of women's college volleyball.
The teams have met a total of 12 times in postseason play, fueling a rivalry shaped by high-stakes matchups.
There's no doubt that the Huskers are seeking revenge after suffering a devastating five-setter loss in the 2024 NCAA championship semifinals. Penn State rallied from a 0-2 deficit, pulling off the reverse sweep en route to the national championship title. Just a month earlier, the Nittany Lions had handed Nebraska a 3-1 defeat in a marquee top-5 regular season matchup, snapping a seven-match losing streak in the series.

Ironically, the last time the two met in the NCAA tournament before 2024 came in 2017, when Nebraska edged Penn State in the NCAA national semifinals and the Huskers went on to win the national championship.
But wait — there's more.
Husker Head Coach Dani Busboom Kelly inaugural season comes after leading the Louisville Cardinal program for eight years. Last season, her team also fell twice to Penn State: once in September, and once in the national championship finals at home.
Nebraska and Louisville were a combined 0-4 vs. Penn State last season. The motivation is high for Dani Busboom Kelly and the Huskers' match at PSU on Friday.
