Stanford's Kathryn Plummer named AVCA Player of the Year

  Plummer is a two-time First-Team All-American and led Stanford back to the semifinals this year.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. โ€” The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced that Stanford sophomore outside hitter Kathryn Plummer has been selected as the 2017 TeamSnap/AVCA Division I Player of the Year.

The award was presented Friday afternoon at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year banquet, which was held in Kansas City, Mo. as part of the 2017 AVCA Convention.

Kathryn Plummer fast facts:

  • Pac-12 Player of the Year and AVCA Pacific North Region Player of the Year
  • Nailed 20+ kills in 11 matches this season
  • Led the Cardinal with eight double-doubles
  • Helped Stanford to the No. 3 overall seed in the NCAA tournament and a semifinals appearance
  • Placed first among Pac-12 players in kills per set (4.66) and points per set (5.39)
  • Made 1,206 attempts to lead the Cardinal, nearly twice as many as the second-most
  • Hit at a .400 clip in 11 matches
  • Two straight AVCA First-Team All-American awards
  • ESPNW Player of the Year
  • Ninth AVCA Player of the Year award in program history, and first since 2007 (Foluke Akinradewo)
  • Six of the last eight AVCA Players of the Year have come from the Pac-12 (Big Ten account for the other two)

 

This is the second straight year Plummer has been honored with an AVCA national award. Last year, as a member of the 2016 national champion Cardinal, she was named Freshman of the Year.
