Florida hands No. 1 Texas baseball its second series loss of the season

College baseball's top candidates for National Player of the Year

The top team in the country hasn't won a series in May after Florida took two of three games over No. 1 Texas in the weekend series. The Gators closed the series with a 4-1 win Sunday, with the previous results being 8-2 Gators on Friday and 5-2 Longhorns on Saturday.

Florida led 2-0 after the third inning before a home run from Brody Donay pushed the lead to 3-0 in the sixth inning. One more run came home in the seventh inning, giving Gator pitcher Aidan King a 4-0 advantage before he exited the game. King finished with nine strikeouts in the win.

Texas finally got on the board with one run in the eighth inning, but it was too little, too late.

Florida's win Sunday keeps the SEC regular season title race open. Texas had a shot at clinching a share of the SEC title with a win, but with the loss the Longhorns take a two-game lead into the final week.

Texas' series loss to Florida comes after the Longhorns got swept by Arkansas to open the month. Overall, it's Texas's second series loss in the 2025 season.
