How the national semifinals work
Eight teams, four all-around competitors and 16 event specialists qualified from regional competition to make it to Fort Worth, Texas and the national semifinals.
There are two sessions on Thursday to decide the teams that will make the championship final on Saturday. The top two teams from each semifinal will advance. The team championship is then determined by the team that gets the highest cumulative score, with five scores counting per event.
The all-around and individual event championships will be won during Thursday's semifinal round, going to the individuals with the highest cumulative score.
How each team qualified for the semifinals
The 2026 championships started with 36 teams, determined by their national qualifying score. Teams 1-16 were seeded by the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Committee, with the remaining teams placed geographically at one of the four regional sites (Baton Rouge, Corvallis, Lexington, Tempe). Twelve all-around competitors and 64 individual event specialists from non-qualifying teams also competed in the championships.
At each of the four regionals, nine teams, approximately three all-around athletes and four individual event specialists competed. The first round consisted of two teams, the second round was made up of eight teams and the regional final had four teams.
The top two teams from each regional, the top all-around student-athlete and top event specialist on each event (from a non-qualifying team) received automatic berths to the national championships.
