🫨 Chaos in the ACC
We had two shocking results in the late window, as two top ACC teams fall to unranked conference opponents. These could have serious playoff implications for the conference.
Wake Forest stuns No. 14 Virginia, 16-9
Virginia was ranked No. 14 in the CFP committee's initial rankings this past Tuesday, the highest of any ACC team. But that will likely change next week, as the Demon Deacons storm into Charlottesville and play spoiler, dealing a huge blow to UVA's playoff hopes.
The Deacs' special teams were the difference in this one, putting up all 16 points for Wake Forest. An 88-yard punt return TD from Carlos Hernandez and three field goals were enough to upset the Cavaliers, whose offense could not muster a touchdown despite totaling 327 yards. Wake Forest moves to 6-3 on the season and becomes bowl-eligible for the eighth time in the past 10 seasons.

Cal takes down No. 15 Louisville in overtime, 29-26
The Golden Bears pull off a massive upset over No. 15 Louisville, taking down the Cardinals, 29-26 in Louisville and making things even more complicated in the ACC standings.
Cal QB Jaron-Keawe Sagapolutele threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns, including the OT-winner to WR Jacob De Jesus, who had a career day—he totaled 158 yards on 16 catches and hauled in the game-winner on fourth and goal to shock the No. 15 Cardinals on the road.

🤯 HOW did Jeremiyah Love score on this play?
No. 10 Notre Dame is rolling against Navy, thanks in large part to RB Jeremiyah Love's 91 rushing yards and two TDs.
Love's second TD of the night came in dramatic fashion. He was hit TWICE behind the line of scrimmage, and he was thrown down for what looked like a four-yard loss. But he somehow stayed on his feet, rolling off the defender and taking it 48-yards to the house.

🌅 Late afternoon recap
Late-game drama defined Saturday’s afternoon slate, as Arizona, Vanderbilt and Wisconsin each pulled out close wins capped by clutch performances and defensive stands.
Quincy Craig’s 24-yard touchdown run with 39 seconds left lifted Arizona past Kansas 24-20, capping a dramatic late rally to clinch bowl eligibility.
After Kansas kicker Laith Marjan missed a 30-yard field goal, his first miss of the season, the Wildcats drove 80 yards in a little more than two minutes. The drive was punctuated by Craig’s burst through the middle for his second touchdown of the day.
Noah Fifita overcame five sacks and a rocky start to throw for 158 yards and two scores, while Craig added 47 rushing yards on just three carries. Arizona’s defense held strong late, forcing Jalon Daniels’ desperation heave to fall incomplete as time expired.
Daniels accounted for 273 total yards and two touchdowns for the Jayhawks, who controlled much of the game but couldn’t seal the win. The Wildcats’ comeback helped erase memories of two previous last-second losses this season.

No. 15 Vanderbilt 45, Auburn 38 (OT)
Diego Pavia threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Cole Spence in overtime as No. 15 Vanderbilt survived a late Auburn rally to win 45-38 on Saturday.
Pavia had one of his best games this season, passing for 377 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 112 yards and another score and keeps Commodores stayed alive in the College Football Playoff race. Tight end Eli Stowers caught 12 passes for 122 yards, and Tre Richardson added 124 receiving yards.
Auburn, playing its first game under interim coach DJ Durkin after Hugh Freeze’s firing, pushed Vanderbilt to the brink. Quarterback Ashton Daniels threw for 353 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 89 yards and two more, tying the game at 38 with 5:27 left before Vanderbilt’s defense stood tall in overtime.
Pavia was stopped on fourth-and-1 late in regulation, but the Commodores’ offense delivered in OT, and the defense sealed it when Daniels’ fourth-down pass sailed high.

Wisconsin 13, No. 24 Washington 10
Wisconsin’s defense dominated and Nathanial Vakos’ 32-yard field goal late in the third quarter ended up being the decisive blow as the Badgers stunned No. 24 Washington 13-10 on Saturday, ending a six-game skid.
Freshman linebacker Mason Posa led a relentless defensive effort with two sacks, a forced fumble and a recovery that set up Wisconsin’s tying touchdown. The Badgers overcame the early loss of starting quarterback Danny O’Neil, with true freshman Carter Smith rushing for a score in relief.
Wisconsin’s special teams also delivered. Kicker Sean West threw a 24-yard completion on a fake punt, and Ben Barten blocked a 50-yard field-goal attempt in the fourth quarter to preserve the lead.
West ended the game as the leading passer for Wisconsin with his lone completion.
Washington struggled in cold, rainy conditions, managing just 219 total yards and one offensive touchdown. Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. was sacked four times, and the Huskies’ final drive ended with Posa’s second sack.
The win was the Badgers’ first Top 25 victory since 2021.

🔟 Top-10 teams survive on the road
No. 3 Texas A&M pulled away in the second half to stay unbeaten, defeating No. 19 Missouri 38-17. The Aggies improved to 9-0 behind a dominant defensive effort and big plays from their backfield.
Leading 14-0 at halftime, the Aggies wasted no time extending their lead. Quarterback Marcel Reed found KC Concepcion on a short pass that turned into a 48-yard touchdown early in the third quarter, pushing the margin to 21-0. Missouri finally answered with a 4-yard touchdown run by Jamal Roberts midway through the quarter, but A&M’s creativity swung momentum right back. A perfectly executed fake punt by Dalton Brooks went for 48 yards, setting up a Randy Bond 32-yard field goal to make it 24-7 entering the fourth.
Rueben Owens provided the exclamation points. After a Missouri field goal cut the lead to 14, the sophomore running back burst through the middle for a 57-yard touchdown, then added a 1-yard score late to seal the win. Owens finished with two touchdowns and over 100 rushing yards.
Ahmad Hardy’s 45-yard scoring run gave Missouri a brief spark, but it was too little, too late. Texas A&M’s defense, led by Taurean York and Cashius Howell, stifled the Tigers’ offense, recording multiple sacks and turnovers to preserve the Aggies’ perfect record and strengthen their SEC title hopes.

No. 6 Oregon escaped with an 18-15 win over No. 20 Iowa thanks to a last-second field goal from freshman kicker Atticus Sappington.
Trailing 16-15 with under two minutes left, quarterback Dante Moore led the Ducks on a methodical, pressure-packed drive. Moore connected with Malik Benson on a crucial 24-yard completion to move Oregon into striking distance, and Noah Whittington added a first down run to set up the winning kick. With just three seconds remaining, Sappington calmly nailed a 39-yard field goal through the swirling wind and rain to give Oregon the lead for good.
Moments earlier, Iowa appeared to have seized control. The Hawkeyes marched 72 yards on a drive capped by Mark Gronowski’s 3-yard touchdown keeper, cutting Oregon’s lead to one. The potential game-winning two-point conversion was overturned on review when the receiver’s foot was ruled out of bounds, leaving the score 16-15 and the door open for Oregon’s comeback.

½ Halftime check for these afternoon ranked games
No. 6 Oregon battled both the No. 20 Iowa Hawkeyes and a downpour Saturday afternoon, taking a 12-7 halftime lead in a defensive slugfest at Kinnick Stadium.
The Ducks’ defense set the tone early, forcing back-to-back punts before capitalizing on a special teams miscue. A high snap on an Iowa punt sailed over the kicker’s head and into the end zone, giving Oregon an early 2-0 lead on a safety. Quarterback Dante Moore struggled to find rhythm in the wet conditions, throwing an interception in the end zone late in the first quarter.

Running back Dierre Hill Jr. extended Oregon’s advantage midway through the second quarter, bursting through a hole on the left side for a 19-yard touchdown. But the Hawkeyes responded behind quarterback Mark Gronowski, who completed a 38-yard strike to Jacob Gill before finding DJ Vonnahme for a 3-yard touchdown to pull within 9-7.
Kicker Atticus Sappington added a 46-yard field goal as time expired in the half to make it 12-7 Ducks.
Oregon’s offense endured more setbacks, losing wide receiver Gary Bryant Jr. to an ankle injury and already missing star receiver Dakorien Moore. Noah Whittington stepped up with 38 rushing yards on two carries to steady the Ducks, who aim to stay in playoff contention with this Big 10 matchup.

No. 3 Texas A&M flexed its balance and defensive dominance Saturday, taking a 14-0 halftime lead over No. 19 Missouri on the road.
Quarterback Marcel Reed and wide receiver Ashton Bethel-Roman connected for the Aggies’ first score, a three-yard touchdown late in the first quarter that capped a drive fueled by a 23-yard catch from Mario Craver and steady rushing from Rueben Owens. Despite early offensive penalties and a pair of stalled possessions, A&M found rhythm by leaning on its physicality up front.

The Aggies’ defense, one of the nation’s best, stifled Missouri’s ground game after an early 40-yard burst from SEC rushing leader Ahmad Hardy. Linebacker Cashius Howell forced a strip sack, while cornerback Tyreek Chappell’s tight coverage limited Missouri’s backup quarterback Matt Zollers to short throws. Late in the second quarter, edge rusher Daymion Sanford delivered a crushing hit that jarred the ball loose from Zollers, and safety Dalton Brooks scooped it up and returned it to the Missouri 2-yard line. Running back E.J. Smith finished the drive with a short touchdown plunge.
Defense set it up. Offense finished it.

Missouri’s offense managed only a handful of first downs and failed on a fourth-down attempt near midfield. The Tigers will receive the second-half kickoff as the Aggies look to preserve their perfect 8-0 record and remain in the SEC Championship hunt.

😰 No. 2 Indiana narrowly avoids upset against Penn State
No. 2 Indiana kept its undefeated season Saturday alive, rallying late to defeat Penn State 27-24 behind a clutch 2-minute drill drive from quarterback Fernando Mendoza and a possible catch of the year by Omar Cooper Jr.
Trailing 24-20 with less than two minutes remaining, Mendoza guided the Hoosiers 80 yards in under 90 seconds. He found Riley Nowakowski for a 29-yard gain and connected with Charlie Becker to move inside the 10-yard line. On third-and-goal, Mendoza lofted a pass to the back of the end zone to Cooper for a leaping grab and dragged his left foot inbounds to secure the game-winning score with 36 seconds left.

Nicholas Singleton powered Penn State’s rally with a 59-yard run and later caught a 19-yard screen for a score that gave the Nittany Lions their first lead of the game.
